SALE!! Acorn Hill Home Sale!

Just reduced prices on all items, EXCEPT, Christmas items and scarves.  Check out my Etsy shop, www.etsy.com/shop/acornhillhomeIf ordered before December 18, items should arrive before Christmas as I ship Priority Mail.  Store will be closed from Dec. 23 - Jan.6 for Christmas Holidays.

Check out my previous blogs for Christmas ornaments.  I still have a few left but I am not listing them on the shop site.  You can contact me at my email, acornhillhome@gmail.com to find out prices and purchase these items.  If you know me, send me a text or call.

My daughter, Katie, snapped this shot of my dogs---they want in the front yard so bad to chase squirrels.  Notice the "recycled" pumpkin in the next picture.  Makes a great "ornament" for Christmas decoration, painted red!

Preparation Thanks

Should have posted this one first, as this was the preparation.  My daughter, Katie, helped last week with the ornaments.  My den and dining room looked like a craft fair exploded in them. On Friday, my sister-in-law, Kathy Dupree, and my neice, Erin Sluder, came 150 miles just to help me with tagging everything.  What a chore---and a mess.  Oh well, things have to get messy before being beautiful sometimes.  Also thanks to my husband, Barry, for his muscle power in helping to set up the display and take it down.  I could not have done this show without all of these wonderful family members!!  This was my first show since leaving my job back in May this year, so this was a re-learning experience for me. Next one should be a smoother transition.

Christmas Bazaar Pictures

The St. Peter's Christmas Bazaar was fun.  Met a lot of new folks, met other vendors and basically had a good time.  It's great to know that other people like your work enough to buy it on the spot---also got some custom orders to boot.  Wish it could have been a 2-day show, but not bad for one day.  My daughter, Katie, was my wonderful assistant at the show and her input was invaluable in decorating.  Hopefully, at my next show she and my other daughter, Meri, will have work to sell as well.  They are both so talented!  Here are some of our booth pictures.  Hope you enjoy them!  I will be putting some of my Christmas things on Etsy.  Be sure to visit my shop there!!

Christmas Bazaar Time!

Well, the Christmas Bazaar is tomorrow and I'm still pricing items at this late hour.  Other than that, I'm ready I think.   Along with all the items left on my Etsy shop (www.etsy.com/shop/acornhillhome), these newer items will be making their appearance at the Bazaar and hopefully I come back with very little.  What is left will go on the Etsy shop site next week.  As always, I can do custom orders in time for Christmas (acornhillhome@gmail.com).  Ornaments, paper wreaths, paper pulp ornaments, wood ornaments, wool ornaments, homemade clay ornaments, stockings, table top trees made from paper & pinecones, Pride & Prejudice set of cones, wine gift bags---just too much to list it all and I did not get photos of everything!  Looking forward to a good day at St.Peter's Christmas Bazaar in Hoover.  Come on out, starting at 9:00 am, Nov. 24 - St. Peter's Catholic Church on Patton Chapel Rd.

Glorious Fall!!

I loooove this time of year.  Cool mornings, warm sunny days, and cool nights--sometimes cool enough for a fire.  The leaves are gorgeous this year but fall too quickly!  I know I haven't posted in awhile, been busy making Christmas things and collecting nuts and pinecones.  As promised, I used the book pages from the book purses.  They made wall décor, pumpkins, trees and flowers, as well as wonderful paper pulp for ornaments.  Still got work to do on the ornaments.   Probably not going to sell this online as some of the wall décor, etc. that are made with vintage pages are too fragile.  May sell locally at shows.   I just love them though.  They were fun to make.  I especially love the cross made from music paper.  Gotta get to bed now and rest for another full fall day tomorrow.

Home Sweet Home

What is it about home that we all love to come back to it?  It does not matter how far away I go or who or what I go to see, I always love to come home again.  Could it be our own bed, our pets, or just the fact that home is where we can just "be".  It fits us and it is comfort.  I loved my visit with my daughter, son-in-law and that wonderful grandson, but getting home was sweet too.  Mom and I had a great time in VA.  Mostly we just chilled out at the house due to rainy weather, but did manage to get to the Millhouse Zoo in Roanoke, VA.  Little one had such fun with the animals and riding the train (his favorite thing to do).

Loves his Early Reading videos.

After lunch I thought we were heading back to the house, but my daughter reminded me that I had wanted to visit Black Dog Salvage (from Salvage Dawgs on DIY network) if I ever got to Roanoke.   I immediately said let's do it!  After getting lost, we finally arrived and took in all the awesome things their store offered.  As we were leaving I told her to drive around the block as I wanted to take a picture of the store sign.  Who happened to be outside the store?  Mike and Sally (black dog).   I asked for their photo and he also had someone take one of me, him and Sally.  He is just as he appears on the show, genuine, no pretense.  I hope to go back again when I can shop longer.

Mike and Sally

My daughter had a birthday this week so we had to celebrate!!  I baked a heart-shaped chocolate cookie which her husband decorated with an owl (her favorite thing right now).  We cooked her favorite comfort food of chopped steak, gravy, biscuits, rice & asparagus.  Stuffed is an understatement---we pigged out!  Fun time, especially for her.

Due to the cooler weather, the leaves were starting to turn on the way home and getting off the interstate for awhile led to a great place for lunch that had a super gluten-free menu.  A little further down the road, a roadside stand with fresh apples, and cheap.  Sooooo good!  Memories and pictures will go a long way in helping us to savor the trip.  Hope to do it again soon-- I already miss them.  I pray that all of you are having a fantastic fall!   Did a little decorating before I left.  Now, back to work tomorrow creating Christmas things to sell.

Virginia Bound

Can't wait to see my daughter, son-in-law and grandson this next week!  So excited!  Traveling to VA this time of year is always a pretty drive.  Leaves will be turning the further north we get which will be great eye candy and make the drive seem a little shorter.  You see, I don't like to stay on the interstate but since it is the shortest distance, I do.  Just once I would like to not be in a hurry and just wander along country roads.  It seems strange to me, but Highway 11 actually goes all the way from our house to their house!  I'm going to do that one day when I have loads of time.  My Mom will be going with me this time for her first visit to their home.  There are so many antique and thrift stores I will be passing by.  Maybe next time.
Grandson from last fall.  He has grown so much!

By the way, I have completely sold out of Auburn Colored Scarfs/Necklaces.  So happy to make more so keep ordering!   My Etsy experience has been slow so far.  I have to keep reminding myself that I have only been there for less than a month.  According to our web meeting this week with Etsy, it takes a lot longer to get established.  I'll keep waiting and keep adding to my listings.  In the meantime, visit my Etsy store and "like" some of the things or just "like" my store  - www.etsy.com/shop/acornhillhome.  I'll be doing shows in our area so if you hear of a good one, let me know.  You can add a comment to this posting by joining Google+.  I would love to hear from you.  Also, you can post to Acorn Hill Home Facebook....join that too!

Perfect Weather!

Perfect Weather!

Wasn't this weekend just wonderful?!?  Since I did not have to be out in it, I enjoyed listening to the rain on Saturday morning and puttering around and cleaning house with Barry in the AM. This morning's weather was also perfect--cool--but not cold.  The house was sooo quiet.  I did not even want to break this silence by listening to the morning news on TV.  Just the patter of my four-legged side-kicks now and then to break the silence.  Great fall morning for coffee and Bible in hand to listen to what God had to say.  Most women who do too much are usually nervous about quiet, doing nothing, alone time.  That's why I like to stay home, for the quietness!  To paraphrase a calendar quote I read in August, "Rather than run away from these moments and get busy, we have the possibility to feel the uneasiness and see what we have to learn from the discomfort."  God speaks when we are still, we listen and we learn.  We can't always be comfortable with our life, but God and our home can always be comforting.  My soul, wait thou in silence for God only; for my expectation is from Him (Psalm 62:5).

Just listed on Etsy today---Wool Flower Pins--beautiful upcycle!!  The former wool sweaters were hand felted and fashioned into flowers to wear.  Making these flowers is addictive.  The wool does make my nose itch, but the end result is worth it!  I need to buy a new outfit just so I can wear one of the lavender flowers.
